Coach Michael ‘Doc’ Bowser
took an unconventional path to coach the Wildcats men’s
basketball team. A graduate of College of the Holy Cross in
‘66, Bowser returned to the Syracuse area, shortly after, to
receive a degree in internal medicine and cardiology from SUNY
Upstate. After years as a successful cardiologist,
‘Doc’ Bowser returned to his first love, basketball, by
becoming Cazenovia’s assistant coach in 2001.
Bowser took the head job in 2004, after the departure of Coach
Todd Widrick, and has put a unique spin on Cazenovia’s game.
Incorporating speed, Bowser employs a fast-paced, deep bench
strategy.
More than anything, though, Bowser loves the game of basketball
and uses it as a tool to help his student-athletes evolve. "There
is nowhere I would rather be than at a gym helping young men
develop as players and responsible adults," Bowser says. "Being
able to do that—while at the same time staying involved with
the sport I love—is the best of all
worlds."
