Men's Lacrosse Outlasts Hilbert

HAMBURG, NY – The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team took to their home field for the first time in the 2012 season and suffered a loss to NEAC opponent Cazenovia College, 12-11.  It was a hard fought battle, but the Wildcats (2-3, 1-0 NEAC) outlasted the Hawks (1-2, 1-1 NEAC), having a huge third quarter scoring six goals.

After Cazenovia claimed a 3-2 start in the first period on the strength of goals from Taylor Hastrich (Horseheads, NY), TJ Shaw (Tully, NY), and Cory Tilton (Central Square, NY), Hilbert answered back. Hilbert's rally had them leading 7-5 going into the half.

After the Wildcat's triumphant six-goal third period, Hilbert tied up the game in the fourth period to make it an even 11-11 game.  With 4:37 left on the game clock, Shaw sealed the victory with one final goal which would close the scoring for both teams on night.

For Cazenovia, Shaw and Hastrich each had four goals in the win. Jamil Modaffari (Penn yan, NY) would also collect two goals in the contest.

For the game, Hilbert had 46 shot attempts compared to Cazenovia's 24. Cazenovia's goalie, Pat Boyle, was recorded with 13 saves in the win.

The Wildcats hit the turf on Tuesday when they host Brockport in their home opener at 4:00pm.
