Wildcats Have Great Weekend in NEAC Championships

Cazenovia, NY – The 2012 NEAC Swimming and Diving Championships were filled with excitement, drama, and suspense. The event was hosted by Cazenovia College (2010 women's champions) and proved to be a memorable event.

On the women's side the competition was fierce throughout the weekend. The two favorites, Wells and Cazenovia, would be tied after the first day of competition (each earning 150 points), and would only be separated by three points after day two with Wells up 307.5 to 304.5. Day three would be intense as St. Elizabeth, Cobleskill, and Gallaudet would fight the good fight, but it would come down to the very end. When the final announcement was made, it would be Wells raising their hands in victory after just edging Cazenovia by the score of 460.5 to 421.5. The final results for the women's championships are as follows:

  1. Wells – 460.5
  2. Cazenovia – 421.5
  3. Gallaudet – 404
  4. Cobleskill – 399
  5. St. Elizabeth – 262

While the men's championships may not have been very close in regards to the final results, the competition in the pool was fierce. Many of the races throughout the weekend would come right down to the wire, and several individual NEAC records were broken, but it would be defending NEAC champion Gallaudet that would use their incredible depth and talent to swim away from the field again. Final results on the men's side are as follows:

  1. Gallaudet – 580.5
  2. Wells – 481
  3. Cazenovia – 326.5
  4. Cobleskill - 277

For their sensational performances during the championships and throughout the season, the following awards were presented at the conclusion of the event as voted upon by the NEAC Swimming and Diving Coaches:
