Nittany Lions hold off Cazenovia comeback to earn NEAC win

READING, PA (January 22, 2012) - A strong defensive effort and timely shooting helped give the Penn State Berks women's basketball team a 49-46 victory over Cazenovia College in Sunday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

The Nittany Lions (4-11, 3-6 NEAC South) forced 30 turnovers and held Cazenovia to 29.0% shooting from the floor. Berks, however, committed 25 turnovers and shot 26.6% from the floor. The difference was the teams' performances at the free throw line. Both teams struggled, but the Wildcats (5-10, 4-4 NEAC) converted on just eight of their 16 trips, while Berks made 14 of its 27 visits.

Megan McDermott (Greene, NY) supplied the bulk of the Wildcats offensive production with 26 points on 9-of-22 shooting. She also recorded 11 rebounds and three steals. Erin O'Malley (Torrance, CA) had a contest-high 12 rebounds and also blocked three shots. Vicki Dufort (Ballston Spa, NY) added 10 rebounds and seven points.

Cazenovia travels to Keuka on Wednesday for a 8:00pm start.
